Tijdens de bijeenkomst werd getoond wat er allemaal bereikt is in de afgelopen 5jaar. Er vond een grote toename plaats in publicaties, promoties en gezamenlijke projecten en subsidieaanvragen. Een belangrijk doel van het opzetten van interfacultaire instituten was om via samenwerking tussen verschillende disciplines meer externe financiering te verwerven om daarmee de teruglopende eerste geldstroom te compenseren. MOVE heeft een grote toename weten te realiseren van 3e geldstroom subsidies (EU en industrie), terwijl de inkomsten uit de 2e geldstroom ruim gehandhaafd werden. Bij de interne visitatie over de eerste 3 jaar werd MOVE dan ook zeer positief beoordeeld.

Het aan de buitenwereld tonen van het uitstekende en innovatieve onderzoek van MOVE, vindt nog niet genoeg plaats, waardoor MOVE minder bekend is in de buitenwereld dan gewenst is (afgezien van de wetenschappelijke wereld). Door de organisatie eenvoudiger te presenteren en een duidelijke keuze te maken voor de thema’s van MOVE (regeneratieve geneeskunde, revalidatie en sport) hoopt MOVE duidelijker naar buiten te treden. Bovendien is er voor gekozen om een nieuw professioneel logo te laten ontwerpen, dat in de vorm van puzzels op de bijeenkomst werd gepresenteerd.

During the gathering the MOVE director Professor de Haan gave a short presentation of what has been achieved in the past 5 years. We have had a major increase in publications and collaborative projects and grant applications. One of the main reasons for initiating the interfaculty institutes was to enable the institutes to obtain more external funding through collaboration and thus compensate for the decreasing university funding. MOVE has been able to obtain a major leap in 3rd party funding (i.e. EU and industry based funding), whilst the 2nd party funding (NWO), has remained steady. As a consequence of this, MOVE received a positive mid-term review after the initial 3 years of operation.

However, unfortunately MOVE does not excel in showing the outside world the excellent research carried out within MOVE. And as a result of this, MOVE is not enough known outside academia. By simplifying the organization and making a clear choice for the three existing main MOVE themes we hope to present MOVE as the Research Institute on Human Movement with an emphasis on Regenerative Medicine, Rehabilitation and Sports, worldwide. In addition to this, we have designed a new logo, which was presented in a puzzle during the gathering.

Remember to bring along a postcard with a short outline of your research interests put down in plain language. Should you not have a postcard, we will supply some on Friday, or alternatively you can pick one up at one of the locations where we have left some: ACTA – coffe corner on the 11th floor, Rehabilitation: Secretariat in the basement, Orthopedics: secretariat on the 3rd floor or at the coffee corner on the 6th floor of the FBW.

Het is de verwachting dat de V-Gait veel nieuwe translationele research projecten om het verstoorde lopen beter te begrijpen, mogelijk zal maken, en uiteindelijk zal bijdragen aan een beter behandeling van patiënten met loopproblemen.

Funding is awarded in such areas as developmental biology, molecular biology, microbiology, pharmacology, clinical paediatrics, paediatric neurology and child psychology/psychiatry.

The Fund was established in 1982 and is named after the paediatrician H.C.E. ter Meulen, who bequeathed his estate to the Fund.

What does it cover?
The Fund makes stipends available for a maximum period of 12 months and awards grants covering a researcher’s travel and accommodation costs. The Fund also subsidises working visits abroad of one to maximum six months. These allow researchers to learn new techniques that they can then introduce in the Netherlands.

The Fund finances an annual paediatric session and lecture at the Conference of the Netherlands Association of Paediatric Medicine. The session and lecture are given by a renowned researcher.
EUR 165,000 is available each year.

The next deadline for applications is 1 May 2012. Applications for a stipend or working visit grant should be submitted on the designated forms. The Ter Meulen Fund advisory panel assesses the applications.

Het Ter Meulen Fonds subsidieert wetenschappelijk onderzoek dat een bijdrage levert aan de kindergeneeskunde. Voorbeelden van onderzoeksgebieden zijn ontwikkelingsbiologie, moleculaire biologie, microbiologie, farmacologie, klinische kindergeneeskunde, kinderneurologie en kinderpsychiatrie.
